Furnishing Your Home Theater

Today, one of the most popular additions to any home is a home theater. Creating a space that is comfortable and utilizes the latest technology can provide you with the ability to watch television and movies, as well as play games and surf the Internet, in an environment that is as luxurious as the most high-end theater. Understand a bit about the technology, including these LED TV’s, can help you create the home theater of your dreams.

First, note that these LED TV’s are not a new technology. Instead, they are simply an extension of traditional television technology. The back lights the unit with LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes) instead of CCFLs (Cold-cathode Fluorescent Lights). When you are pricing a unit, a good tip is to keep this in mind.

Next, while to many of us thin is always better, this isn’t always the case in the world of LED television. A popular type of these LED TV’s is the ‘edge lit’ model. This model is thinner and can help you create a more streamlined look, but many experts believe the overall quality of these units suffer. It is often better to purchase a standard LED television instead.

Finally, for those looking to have not only a cutting edge home theater, but to save money as well, the LED television requires less power than any other model of television currently on the market. Purchase of these types of TV’s for your home theater may help you save money on your power bill at the end of the month.

Assessing Your Computer’s CPU Temperature

The CPU or the central processing unit of the computer is an essential component to the computer system. It is the main part of the computer that does all the thinking and main functions for the computer. Should the central processing unit part of the computer go down the whole computer would be completely useless as it would not operate properly. This is why it is important to make sure that your CPU is running properly. One of the biggest concerns with CPUs is that it could eventually start to run to hot.

CPUs through their daily use throughout the day will start to heat up. However, most computers have some type of cooling mechanism that will cool the CPU down and allow it to continue to run properly. Unfortunately, not all computers have a working cooling unit and this can cause the CPU to run extremely hot. In these cases it is important to know how to measure your CPU temperature.

Measuring the computer’s CPU temperature is fairly easy with the right types of software installed. Computer software programs like Speedfan and Realtemp can be run on computer systems in order to assess the temperature of the computer system. Both of these programs offer computer users a chance to assess what the CPU temperature is and how well their cooling fans are working. Some programs like Speedfan will actually show computer users what the fan speed is and whether or not the fans are working properly.

Once a computer user has this information on hand they are able to figure out their next step. For many computer users this could be as easy as just cleaning the computer fans so that they work properly. However, for some computer users this requires them to purchase new fans or cooling systems. Either way they avoid potential disaster by preparing ahead of time.

Technologies Used At Home

Today we see many technologies coming up in the market and it is really difficult to choose which one is better than the other. The technologies are of 2 types. One you can use at home and the other being used in business and offices. Let’s talk about the home technologies.

The technologies that are used at home are television, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven, computer, UPS and many others. These are the most essential technologies that we need every day. The latest innovation to hit home entertainment technology is 3D televisions. While they are still fairly new and still relatively expensive, this new technology is sure to eventually become the standard television in living rooms all across the country.

Ever since the 1950′s when the first 3D films were available, we’ve become more and more enamored of the technology. It has recently gotten to the point where technology has improved so that enjoying a 3D experience in the theater is an amazingly spectacular enhancement, and the demand for private 3D experiences has begun to grow.

There are several 3D technologies used when developing television sets for private use. One requires the use of glasses, and the other does not. Anaglyphic and polarization are 2 of the 3D glasses available. Anaglyphic glasses use the standard red and cyan lenses that turns images into 3D when one color is filtered out. The polarization glasses work by restricting the amount of light to reach the eye which in turn creates the illusion of 3D.

Some of the 3D television models being sold on the market today come with one or two pairs of glasses. However, users claim that the glasses are not terribly comfortable and that they tend to slip off and may not fit children well.

That being said, there is a newer technology being implemented in 3D televisions. This technology is called autostereoscopic and doesn’t require the use of glasses. These televisions project images in a way that cause the images to shift as your perspective changes.

Sony, Philips and Samsung are all currently manufacturing 3D HDTV’s and Panasonic in particular has made the largest 3D television available in the world. Measuring in at 152 inches, this 8.84 million pixel television is perfect for the true home entertainment connoisseur.

Regular and widespread television programming that is available in 3D is slowly catching on and once you can watch any of your favorite shows in 3D, these televisions are sure to become popular staples in every living room.

Managing the Technology in our Homes

Technology is in our homes wherever we look. It’s not just in the Xbox or the family computer but it’s in our thermostats, our automatic garage doors, the sprinkler for the lawn and even our coffee pots. The more things we buy to make our lives easier the more complicated it becomes to stay on top of the programming and setting of each of these items. However, ultimately the technology in our homes can be integrated and managed by one simple device, your personal computer.

The Digital Living Network Association is a program where member companies agree to abide by certain standards when developing their products to allow consumers the ability to easily use their devices. Televisions and PDA’s can use your existing WiFi network or even Bluetooth technology to talk to your computer and vice versa.

The DLNA devices can transfer pictures, movies and other media from one device to another. You just need to connect the device to your home network over your wireless connection. Then the devices will discover and communicate with each other.

The idea of a -smart house’ is not so far off into the future. Voice activated light switches and universal remote controls are becoming commonplace, but homes have yet to fully catch up to technology and be fully integrated with all your devices being totally controlled from one central location or computer. This is however, happening slowly and in pieces. WiFi technology has made it simple for our devices to communicate and it is only a matter of time before houses are routinely built with appliances and devices that use this technology.

Seamlessly integrating all of the systems in our homes into one control device is unavoidable. Modern society is much too enamored of our gizmos, toys and devices and it is only a matter of time before somebody comes up with a simple and user friendly way of integrating all our homes’ technology into one integrated control device.

Technology in the Home – It’s now In Literally Everything

Unless you have not updated your appliances in several years (at least five), or you live in a society that uses very few if any electrical or gas-powered appliances, you have probably noticed that even they have gone high-tech. Your refrigerator may now have sensors that detect temperature changes and adjusts the thermostat in the freezer and refrigerator compartments accordingly while the control panel on your coffee maker may look like something the space shuttle astronauts would use.

On the other hand, you may have become so accustomed to everything being digital and computerized that may not even be aware any more that you are using home technology. For, example, you use home technology when you search the web for the best home insurance rates and coverage you need to protect your “smart” gadgets.

Home technology has brought many improvements, especially in the area of energy savings. For example, you can now get programmable thermostats for your heating and cooling system. You set it to keep the house at a certain temperature while you are away, then automatically come on a little bit before you return to bring the inside temperature to a comfortable level. This way heat or air conditioning is not being wasted.

In addition, of course, home technology is very evident in our entertainment systems. Hi-definition TVs that can be programmed once to record a certain show as well as serve in some ways as a second home computer, with programmable applications right on the screen are one example. The remote controls that run them are another.

Therefore, the next time you sit down at your computer or to watch a TV show, take a moment to think about them and all the other ways you are using home technology. You’re bound to be surprised at the number of ways there are.

Eco-Friendly Technology in our Homes

Eco-friendly technology, otherwise known as sustainable technology, is the process of taking energy from renewable resources in the environment, and then turning it into usable power. There are several popular ways of getting energy from our environment including solar, wind and geothermal processes.

Solar energy is one such form of eco-friendly technology. Solar energy became popular in the 1970′s and since then the energy output of the solar panels has greatly increased. The use of less expensive materials and streamlining manufacturing process have reduced the cost of installing and maintaining solar panels so now they’re affordable and attainable. Solar panels used to cost thousands of dollars and involved a complicated installation process. Now inexpensive materials can be used to create a single solar panel that will power several appliances, and this can be built at home in a few hours.

Geothermal power is another form of eco-friendly technology. Pipes are inserted into the ground below a home’s foundation and running water is passed through them. The ground heat warms the water which is then passed through heat exchangers and heat pump generators to create electricity. This kind of system is best built into the ground prior to construction of the home.

Wind power is another kind of eco-friendly technology that is increasing in popularity. Many home owners choose to power their homes with the power of the wind. Windmills power electricity generators that are in turn attached to battery cells which store the energy for future use. The electricity can then be used to power appliances or to even heat or cool the home.

Eco-friendly technology is something that should be carefully considered by every home owner. Taking advantage of the sustainable sources of energy around us is the only way we’ll reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and expendable energy sources. Eco-friendly sources of energy are also either pollutant free, or create very little in the way of byproducts or pollution.

Technology Unites

Science fiction continues to be a pioneer for technological advancement if only for bringing the concepts into the public’s eye. Of science existed in a vacuum where public opinion and public funding did not matter than perhaps science fiction would not be as important as the means for generating discussion.

For example, the film Gattaca was successful in bringing the concept of genetic engineering into the mainstream, and its possibilities are being tested now. The ethical red lights flashed right from the origins of the concept. What do you do as a senator who has to vote on the legality of a family altering their unborn child’s genes to eradicate a cancer gene that runs in the family?

While this line of questioning leads to an endless debate on human genome ethics questions, science fiction has also pushed forward the possibilities of how man is supposed to take on the challenges of different unexplored frontiers. Great minds like Jules Verne thought up future inventions for space, land, and sea travel years before they were invented.

Perhaps he most famous modern example is Star Trek series. The basic premise of the series relies on the fact that mankind has made space travel and warp speed possible and has made first contact with alien races. Man has been forced to work together as a single entity (Planet Earth) and has joined a United Federations of Planets which is a United Nations of the planets. It would be silly if each individual nation each tried to deal with each alien planet. The Star Trek world works because man gained certain legitimacy as an unified human race. Technology may unite mad as never before.

The idea of mankind unified for a common cause has been a common theme in popular science fiction for decades, but the idea has been thought to be practical until the invention of the Internet. With universal access to cheap communication some of the barriers that have created nations and conflict might begin to come down. Like most ideas this started simply as a way to entertain and to dream.
