The first step is to download a reliable and safe anti-virus program. There are several free ones on the Internet as well as the name brand ones like Norton or AVG. All of these programs will work and can be installed in a matter of minutes on your computer.

After the anti-virus program has been downloaded it is important to make sure that you run a complete scan on your system. Depending upon how large your computer’s memory is this could take anywhere from a few minutes to hours. However, a complete scan is essential to finding and removing all the viruses.

Once the scanning process has finished it will show you a list of problems that might be on your computer. There will be an option to repair these problems if the computer has not already done so. Do this immediately and restart the computer.

After the viruses have been removed it might be a good idea to run a reliable spyware program as some of these are often overlooked by virus programs. These can include Spybot S&D or Malwarebytes. These similar to the anti-virus programs.

Assessing Your Computer’s CPU Temperature

The CPU or the central processing unit of the computer is an essential component to the computer system. It is the main part of the computer that does all the thinking and main functions for the computer. Should the central processing unit part of the computer go down the whole computer would be completely useless as it would not operate properly. This is why it is important to make sure that your CPU is running properly. One of the biggest concerns with CPUs is that it could eventually start to run to hot.

CPUs through their daily use throughout the day will start to heat up. However, most computers have some type of cooling mechanism that will cool the CPU down and allow it to continue to run properly. Unfortunately, not all computers have a working cooling unit and this can cause the CPU to run extremely hot. In these cases it is important to know how to measure your CPU temperature.

Measuring the computer’s CPU temperature is fairly easy with the right types of software installed. Computer software programs like Speedfan and Realtemp can be run on computer systems in order to assess the temperature of the computer system. Both of these programs offer computer users a chance to assess what the CPU temperature is and how well their cooling fans are working. Some programs like Speedfan will actually show computer users what the fan speed is and whether or not the fans are working properly.

Once a computer user has this information on hand they are able to figure out their next step. For many computer users this could be as easy as just cleaning the computer fans so that they work properly. However, for some computer users this requires them to purchase new fans or cooling systems. Either way they avoid potential disaster by preparing ahead of time.

Using Ares for your Music Downloads

Ares is one of the best programs to use if you like to download movies, documents and music. This program also allows you to share files with other Ares users. Tech Problem: Creating a Filter for Gmail Users

Gmail is one of the most popular types of free internet based email. It seems as if almost every person has at least one gmail account that they use for work, personal affairs or just as a junk email. The problem is that gmail is not like every other email system. Almost every email system has a way that you can block certain emails from coming into your inbox. Gmail does not have a block option. Instead it has a filter option that allows you to filter out unwanted mail.

If you are considering creating a filter for your gmail here is how you can create a filter and get those unwanted emails out of your inbox.

Step 1. To Create a filter you must successfully sign into your Gmail.

Step 2. Once signed into your account you will locate the “Create a Filter” option. This link is located at the top of the screen to the right of the search mail bar. Click on the create a filter link.

Step 3. A while box will appear that is titled create a filter. There are five blank lines and several options at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4. To create a filter you will place the specific phase or email address in the blank line that fits what you want to filter out.

Step 5. You can run a test of the filter system with what you have placed in the filter line. Click “Test Search” and Gmail will run a test search of all mail that would have been filtered if you had the option on your inbox. Once you have the filters you want click Next Step.

Step 6.  Choose where you want the mail to go. If you want the mail to be completely out of your inbox just click the delete it. This will send the mail to your trash bin and you will never see it again. Once you choose your option click “Create Filter” and you are done.

Setting Rules about Internet Use

For children growing up today, the internet has always been a part of their lives. Learning how to set limits about internet use and accountability with your children and teens is a process that begins early.

Many parents choose to set limits about the amount of time their children spend on the internet. Whether it is an actual time limit or rules surrounding usage will depend largely on your child. For some parents, an hour each day is a good limit. For others, the rule could be that all homework must be done and chores complete before computer time. The exception would be using the internet for research or the computer to type up an assignment.

Other parents may limit the amount of time children spend on sites like Facebook and Myspace, while still allowing them access to the computer for longer amounts of time. Social networking sites, while a key part of many teenagers’ social lives, can be a big time drain and parents need to be mindful of this. Ensuring that your child has time for other responsibilities and is not spending a huge amount of time chatting with friends is an important job.

Checking up on your teenager’s online presence can feel intrusive, but it’s important to be sure that they aren’t leaving a trail of information they may regret. Search your child’s name every so often or check up on their profile pages to discreetly be sure everything is okay.

Parents may also want to consider keeping children’s computers in a study or public space, this will prevent late-night computer sessions and help to keep children accountable about websites that they visit and the hours that they keep. Cutting off computer time a half-hour before bedtime is another good guideline for many households. Helping your children learn manage their time wisely, including time on the home computer, is a skill that will help them for the rest of their lives.

Organizing Photos on Your Computer

Consider breaking down your photo folder on your computer by dates depending on how many photos you take in a year. For most people, seasonal folders are a good method. Assign File Names that Make Sense

Immediately after you upload pictures from your camera onto your computer, take the time to go through and assign file names to each. This can be time consuming, but it will make it much easier to find your photos later on. Use descriptive names that will help you to remember which photos you are viewing.While you are labeling photos, take the time to delete pictures that you don’t like and organize them for the future. When you delay organizing your photos, you’ll only be left with a mess of file numbers and unwanted photos to deal with later.

Consider Photo Programs

Google’s Picasa is one great option that is free to download online. The program will search your computer for photos and import them all into a format that allows you to organize, edit, and fix your photos. This is a great option for people whose computers are filled with duplicate photos and old folders as it allows you to see everything in one place.

Organizing your photos can take some time, but it will make life much easier knowing you have everything accounted for on your home computer.

iPhone: The iPhone was created by Apple, the makers of the iMac computer, and has been around since 2007. It runs on an operating system called iOS. This was the first of the current age of smart phones. Because of this, iPhones have the largest number of applications developed and most programmers will design applications for the iPhone before all other types. iPhones run on the AT&T cellular network, although there is a method for unlocking the phone so that you can use a different provider. Doing so will most likely invalidate the warranty on the product.

Android: The Android mobile operating system is not quite as popular as the iOS on Apple’s iPhone, but phones that use it can be found on most other cellular providers. The technology was purchased by Google in 2005 and is based on the Linux operating system. Those who enjoy Google’s suite of computer-based applications like Gmail, Chrome and Google Docs will probably prefer the Android.

Windows: ​Windows Phone 7 is Microsoft’s addition to the mobile operating system and as such, is based upon its PC operating system namesake. Launched in late 2010, Windows Phone 7 is the newest of the three major phone operating systems and has the advantage of being compatible with Microsoft’s other entertainment offerings: Zune and Xbox Live.

PC or Mac: Which is Best for You?

We have all seen the commercials comparing the PC to the Mac, but it is obvious that those for one are skewed unfavorably toward the other. How can you tell which operating system best fits your personality and suits your needs? Is your image a concern when you choose an operating system? What type of work do you do on the computer? What types of entertainment do you enjoy? The answers to these questions will help you decide whether you are a PC or a Mac.

PC: The overwhelming dominator of the market, most computers in the U.S. market use a version of Microsof’s operating system, Windows. The Windows operating system, or OS, has gone through numerous versions over the years, each trying to improve upon the previous. The benefit to choosing a PC is mainly convenience: almost all software and peripherals are made and available for PC. You will not have a hard time finding replacement or upgrading products for the PC, and advanced users can often build their own PCs by buying just the components that they want for a completely personalized and tailored system. Computer gamers prefer PCs over Macs, as well.

Mac: One of the main benefits to using a Mac is its resistance to viruses. One rarely hears of a Mac infected with spyware or other malicious programs. Also, Mac computers are typically the preferred of those who work with media. The Adobe suite of products like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign were programmed with the Mac in mind, and will probably be most intuitive when used on that operating system. Another benefit of choosing a Mac is counter-intuitive; most high-end Macs are capable of having the Windows operating system installed on a separate partition, making it accessible for software that requires a PC. While this is not one of Apple’s major selling points, it can be useful for those who are having a hard time making the decision.
